WORKSHOP: Stitched Sweeper Broom for Beginners

Connect with the traditional craft of broommaking in this two day class. Students will learn the basics of broomcraft by crafting a small handbroom and a stitched sweeper broom from start to finish.

This class is for beginners to broommaking or those who are revisiting it after some time away.

Physical Limitations: Broommaking is a physically strenuous craft and requires moderate upper body strength as well as moderate hand dexterity and strength. Students will also be using their feet to control their foot treadle. This class will be mostly seated.

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN JULY 1, 2026 TO NCWG MEMBERS WHOSE DUES HAVE BEEN PAID THROUGH MAY, 2027.

All materials will be provided and the class materials fee will be approximately $25-$30 per person. A limited variety of colors for wrapping/stitching your broom will be available. Students may want to bring a small pair of sharp scissors.

Students should wear closed toe shoes that have a back on them - no slip ons!

The class will begin after the guild meeting on Saturday, students should plan to either grab lunch in between the meeting and the class or pack a lunch. On Sunday, we will have a break for lunch so students should pack lunch and snacks.

Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Instructor Bio: 

Hannah Hostak, owner of Hanny Handcrafted, is a wool and fiber nerd who enjoys exploring the endless possibilities that fiber has to offer. Hannah is a gardener who grows and preserves plants for natural dyeing. In addition to being a member of the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild, she has studied fiber arts at the John C Campbell Folk School, is a student of grandmother youtube, and attends classes from fiber artists she admires to continue improving her skills. Hannah has received awards for her yarns and fiber arts from the Estes Park Wool Market and the Larimer County Fair.
