I recently had the opportunity to participate in Jennifer Moore’s“Doubleweave, Beyond the Basics” 4-day workshop. WOW!!
Jennifer Moore is the master of Doubleweave! The depth of her knowledge is amazing. Eleven of us had the good fortune not only to work with her but to learn 12 different doubleweave structures. As an instructor, Jennifer makes each weave structure comprehensible and attainable. I can do these!! I can do these due to the way in which she structures her workshops. We see, we do, and it is explained!
For the workshop we used 5/2 perle cotton in light/dark combinations. The workshop was held at Lamms End Studio owned by Paula Becker. There was a variety of looms used for this workshop: Ashford 8H Katie, Schacht 4H Cricket, Baby Wolf, Wolf Pup, Harrisville 4H 22” Floor Loom, etc. The plus in using different looms, we had the chance to weave on each because this was done in a Round Robin format.
Jennifer shared many of her own weavings showing the 12 weave structures we would be learning. The looms were warped before the workshops began so on day one the looms were ready to weave on. Throughout the 4 day workshop we wove, and structures were explained with PowerPoint presentations.
The challenge after taking this workshop is: What s the first doubleweave project I want to weave next? Coasters using checkerboard? Windows? 8 shaft color effect blocks? 4 shaft color block rotations? Oh such ponderings!!
Pictures of the doubleweave samples I wove during the workshop:
4 Shaft Doubleweave Configuration

4 Shaft Color Block Rotations

4 Shaft Color Effect Blocks

Overshot Pattern Doubleweave

8 Shaft,4 Layer Weave

Double Width Twill Cloth

8 Shaft Decorative Stitching

Triple Width Cloth – Point Twill Center

2 Block Doubleweave Checkerboard

2 Block Doubleweave Window

8 Shaft Color Effect Blocks

8 Shaft Twill Pick Up

We saw, we did, and it was explained! We took home great information, examples and a continued love for weaving. I am always impressed with the variety of knowledge that is part of our fiber community. The experts that the guild brings to us is amazing!
Thank you, Northern Colorado Weavers Guild, and each and every person who has contributed to and purchased from the Scholarship Table!
